Biswanath, July 15: Lisha Das, a 16-year-old para cyclist hailing from Assam, has earned the honor of representing India at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
This remarkable achievement makes Lisha the youngest member of the Indian team, where she will participate in the Para Track Cycling category.
Currently a Class XI student at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Biswanath, Lisha is the daughter of Nirmal Das and Rukmini Bhumij Das from Tezpur.
Born on June 8, 2010, Lisha has shown incredible determination, competing with the use of only one arm.
Her accolades include a gold medal at the 2025 National Para Road Cycling Championship, two golds at the Lanna Cup, a bronze at the Korat Cup, and multiple medals at the 2026 Asian Para Track Championships, including two silvers and three bronzes.
International athlete Hridainanda Das expressed pride in Lisha's achievement, stating, "This is a proud moment for all of us. She is the first athlete from Biswanath to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. We hope she brings home a gold medal and wish her, along with the other athletes from Assam, all the very best," during a press conference held by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Biswanath.
The school celebrated Lisha's selection, recognizing it as a moment of great pride and extending their best wishes for her performance at the Games.
Lisha's journey serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes, proving that physical limitations do not hinder the pursuit of sporting excellence.
Alongside Lisha, other athletes representing Assam at the 2026 Commonwealth Games include Olympic boxer Lovlina Borgohain and lawn bowls players Nayan Moni Saikia and Putul Sonowal.
