Historic Milestone for Indian Motorsport

At just eleven years old, Atiqa Mir from Srinagar has made history by becoming the first female racer from India and Asia to be chosen for the Formula 1 Academy's renowned 'Discover Your Drive' development program. This initiative aims to discover and support talented young female drivers globally, providing them with mentorship and opportunities to advance in professional motorsport. Atiqa has been gaining recognition in the karting world, showcasing her skills in both domestic and international competitions. Her selection is a pivotal moment for Indian motorsport and highlights Jammu and Kashmir on the international racing stage.

Inspired by a Family Legacy

Reflecting on her journey into racing, Atiqa shared, "I engage in professional go-karting. My inspiration comes from my father, a former Formula Asia driver and India's inaugural national karting champion. Watching him race, especially in Dubai, motivated me to pursue this path. I focus heavily on fitness and practice extensively on simulators to enhance my driving abilities. I began my professional career in 2021 at the age of seven in the bambino category."

A Landmark Achievement

Atiqa's father, Asif Mir, a former racer, described her accomplishment as a groundbreaking moment in motorsport. He stated, "Atiqa has achieved feats that are seldom seen in global motorsports. This sport does not segregate male and female categories, which may explain the lack of significant female representation worldwide. What Atiqa is accomplishing is historic; she competes against and defeats male drivers, not only in India and Asia but also in Europe, where the competition is incredibly fierce. I was proud to be India's first National Karting Champion and vice-champion of the Formula Asia series."

Driven by Talent and Determination

Atiqa's ascent in the racing world is fueled by her exceptional talent, discipline, and unwavering determination. Competing with some of the finest young drivers globally, she has consistently showcased remarkable maturity and skill, earning accolades on international tracks.

Inspiring Future Generations

Her remarkable achievement has garnered admiration from sports fans throughout Jammu and Kashmir and the broader Indian sporting community. Many view her success as a beacon of inspiration for young girls aiming to excel in traditionally male-dominated sports. As she embarks on her journey with the Formula 1 Academy program, Atiqa embodies the aspirations of a new generation of racers and enhances India's growing footprint in the global motorsport arena.
