Young IAS Officer Dhiman Chakma Arrested for Bribery: Shocking Details Unveiled

Bribery Scandal Involving IAS Officer
Bhawanipatna: Following his arrest for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman, IAS officer Dhiman Chakma has been placed in judicial custody for 14 days by a court on Monday.
On Sunday, vigilance officials discovered Rs 47 lakh in cash at his residence located in Kalahandi district.
Chakma was serving as the sub-collector of Dharmagarh at the time of his arrest.
According to M Radhakrishna, the SP of Vigilance, Chakma was presented before the special vigilance judge in Bhawanipatna, who denied his bail request and ordered his custody.
The vigilance department reported that the 2021 batch IAS officer had coerced a businessman into paying him Rs 20 lakh, threatening to take action against him otherwise.
The businessman subsequently alerted the Vigilance authorities about the situation.
A trap was set on the night of June 8, 2025, leading to Chakma's arrest in his government quarters in Dharamgarh, Kalahandi district.
He was caught in the act of accepting Rs 10 lakh, which was recovered in the presence of witnesses.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at both his government quarters and office.
During these searches, officials found an additional Rs 47 lakh in cash at his Dharamgarh residence. As he failed to provide a reasonable explanation for the large sum, it was confiscated.
Radhakrishna confirmed that a case has been filed against Chakma under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Chakma initially joined the Odisha cadre as an Indian Forest Service officer in the 2019 batch. After completing his training, he served as the additional chief conservator in Baripada, Mayurbhanj, starting in June 2021.
He later passed the civil services examination in 2021, becoming an IAS officer assigned to the Odisha cadre. He took on the role of Sub-Collector in Dharmagarh, Kalahandi, in January 2024.
