Yogi Adityanath Highlights Cultural Heritage at Jhansi Conference
Cultural Heritage and Historical Context
During the 'Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Conference' held in Jhansi on Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke about the significance of the Somnath Temple's history. He emphasized that in the years immediately following India's independence, the nation's cultural and spiritual heritage did not receive the respect it deserved. Referring to the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, he noted that it was initiated by then Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel after independence. Adityanath claimed that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru opposed this initiative.
The Chief Minister further stated that when Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India's first President, decided to participate in the idol consecration ceremony at the temple, the then Prime Minister attempted to prevent him from doing so through a letter. According to Adityanath, such decisions reflected a colonial mindset that influenced the policies and thoughts of that era.
Addressing Colonial Mentality
He pointed out that remnants of a colonial mentality still affect the country today, which has hindered the recognition of India's cultural and spiritual traditions. Adityanath stressed the importance of cultural revival and the preservation of national heritage, asserting that India is now experiencing a renewed pride in its civilizational roots. He highlighted recent events, noting that for the first time in independent India, a Prime Minister has personally participated in significant religious and cultural events related to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, including the foundation stone laying and consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Targeting opposition parties, the Chief Minister accused the Samajwadi Party and Congress of engaging in family-centric politics while in power. He alleged that after losing public support, these parties attempted to divide society along caste lines for political gain.
Rejecting Divisive Politics
Adityanath remarked that the public has rejected such divisive politics. He criticized those who once worked solely for their families, stating they are now trying to create divisions within society. The Chief Minister also mentioned his government's stringent actions against organized crime in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that continuous efforts by law enforcement agencies have either dismantled or rendered the state's mafia networks ineffective. He concluded by reaffirming that the government's focus remains on development, good governance, and strengthening India's cultural identity.
