Significant Political Developments in Uttar Pradesh

Today marked an important day in the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government underwent its second cabinet expansion. During this event, six new ministers took their oaths of office, while two state ministers were promoted and given independent charge. The ceremony, held in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saw the inclusion of rebel MLA Manoj Pandey from the Samajwadi Party and former BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary, both of whom were sworn in as cabinet ministers.

Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to the new ministers at a ceremony held at Jan Bhawan.

Additionally, four other ministers were sworn in as state ministers, namely Hansraj Vishwakarma, Kailash Rajput, Krishna Paswan, and Surendra Diler. Ajit Singh Pal, the Minister of Science and Technology, and Somendra Tomar, the Minister of Energy, were also given independent charge as state ministers. This cabinet expansion is believed to reflect various caste equations within the Yogi government, with the new appointees representing diverse backgrounds, including Brahmins, Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Dalits.

Cabinet Expansion Ahead of Upcoming Elections

With state assembly elections approaching in about eight months, this cabinet expansion has increased the total number of ministers in the state government from 54 to 60. The first cabinet expansion took place on March 5, 2024, prior to the last Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had met with Governor Anandiben Patel on Saturday evening to discuss the cabinet expansion.
