Yogi Adityanath Critiques Opposition on Women's Empowerment in UP Assembly
Chief Minister's Strong Remarks Against Opposition
During a special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a fierce critique against opposition parties, particularly targeting the Samajwadi Party and Congress. He asserted that these parties have consistently opposed initiatives aimed at enhancing women's dignity, safety, and self-reliance. Adityanath labeled the opposition's stance as "hypocritical," spanning from parliamentary discussions to street protests.
Opposition's Resistance to Women's Upliftment
The Chief Minister questioned the intentions of the 'INDIA' alliance, claiming that every progressive measure taken by both the central and state governments for women has faced obstruction from the opposition. He cited the recent discussions on the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha as an example of the negative attitude displayed by opposition parties.
Accusations of Instability
Adityanath accused the opposition of talking about development while simultaneously opposing solid proposals in the assembly to further their political agendas. He emphasized, "Opposition parties have always resisted any progressive steps taken for the upliftment, respect, and self-reliance of women." He referenced previous debates in Parliament, asserting that a similar attitude was evident during discussions in the Lok Sabha.
Revisiting the 1995 Guest House Incident
In a pointed attack on the Samajwadi Party regarding women's safety and dignity, the Chief Minister brought up the infamous 1995 'State Guest House incident.' He remarked that this event serves as a reminder of the opposition's past behavior. Adityanath recalled the incident involving Mayawati, where she was allegedly attacked during a politically tense period at a state guest house.
Highlighting Health Initiatives
Yogi Adityanath also discussed public health efforts, particularly the fight against diseases like encephalitis. He noted that previously, many districts in Uttar Pradesh reported high cases of encephalitis, but past governments failed to control it. He stated, "In your districts, encephalitis caused the highest number of deaths. You did nothing. Today, under the double-engine government, there are no deaths from encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh."
Rural Safety and Women's Dignity
The Chief Minister made strong statements about past rural conditions, asserting that women faced unsafe situations in villages, especially during the evening. He claimed that a lack of sanitation forced women into precarious situations, leading to incidents of harassment in public spaces. However, he noted that the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission has significantly improved this situation, focusing on building toilets and enhancing sanitation in rural areas.
Critique of Opposition's Behavior
Yogi Adityanath criticized the opposition's behavior, stating that their stance changes depending on the platform. He remarked, "Your behavior in Parliament and this assembly is completely different. The way you change colors would make a chameleon blush." He further pointed out that while opposition parties often claim to support development, they oppose similar proposals when presented in the assembly. The Chief Minister asserted that women's safety, dignity, and health are central to government policies, crediting significant reforms to national initiatives launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
