Y Khemchand Singh to Take Oath as Manipur's New Chief Minister
Swearing-In Ceremony Scheduled
Imphal, Feb 4: Y Khemchand Singh, the leader of the BJP legislature party in Manipur, is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state at 6 PM on Wednesday, as confirmed by the state BJP.
The ceremony will take place at Lok Bhavan, where arrangements have been in progress since early morning.
The BJP Manipur announced on social media, "The swearing-in of Shri @YKhemchandSingh as the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Manipur will occur today, 4th February 2026, at 6:00 PM at Lok Bhavan."
They further stated, "With his experienced and visionary leadership, Manipur is poised to advance towards peace, development, and effective governance, marking a new chapter of stability and progress for the state."
This announcement followed Singh's claim to form a government in a state that has been under President's Rule since February of last year.
Earlier today, Singh led a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delegation to meet Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan to assert their claim to establish a popular government.
The delegation included two MLAs from the Kuki-Zo majority areas of Churachandpur and Pherzawl.
The 62-year-old Singh was appointed as the BJP's legislature party leader and subsequently as the NDA legislature party leader in New Delhi on Tuesday.
BJP MLA Thongam Biswajit mentioned that five MLAs, including Singh, are expected to be sworn in as ministers.
N Biren Singh had resigned from the chief minister position in February 2025 following criticism regarding his administration's response to the ethnic violence between the Meiteis and Kukis that erupted in May 2023, leading to the imposition of President's Rule in the state.
