X Acknowledges Mistake Over Grok AI Content Issues in India

X's Compliance with Indian Regulations

New Delhi, Jan 11: The microblogging platform X has recognized its error and committed to adhering to Indian regulations following a warning from the IT Ministry regarding inappropriate content generated by Grok AI.

According to government sources, approximately 3,500 pieces of content have been removed, and over 600 accounts have been terminated as of Sunday.

Previously, the government requested X to provide information on the actions taken against obscene content associated with Grok AI and the steps implemented to prevent future occurrences, as the platform's initial response was deemed insufficient.

In its reply to the first notice, X detailed its stringent policies for removing misleading content and non-consensual sexualized images.

However, the response lacked crucial information, such as specifics on takedown actions and measures to address the Grok AI content issue moving forward.

On January 2, the IT Ministry issued a strong warning to X regarding the inappropriate and sexually explicit content produced through the misuse of AI tools like Grok.

Last Sunday, X's 'Safety' account stated that it actively removes illegal content from its platform, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by suspending accounts and collaborating with local authorities as needed.

"Anyone utilizing Grok to create illegal content will face the same repercussions as those who upload such content directly," X reiterated, aligning with Musk's position on illegal material.
