Worm Discovered in Food at Bengaluru Airport Cafe Sparks Outrage

A recent incident at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport has raised serious food safety concerns after a traveler found a worm in their meal at the Rameshwaram Cafe. The passenger confronted the staff, who initially attempted to downplay the situation. Following the incident, the traveler received a refund, but this event is part of a troubling trend of food safety issues at various eateries. Previous incidents, including a cockroach found in a bread pakora and a dead mouse in chocolate syrup, have also sparked outrage. The situation escalated when a local MLA accused a canteen of serving poor quality food, leading to further scrutiny by health authorities. This ongoing issue highlights the urgent need for improved food safety standards in public dining establishments.

Worm Discovered in Food at Bengaluru Airport Cafe Sparks Outrage

Incident at Rameshwaram Cafe

A traveler at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport encountered a worm in their meal at the well-known Rameshwaram Cafe on Thursday morning. Upon raising the issue with the cafe staff, the employee's initial reaction was to downplay the situation. As the passenger began recording the incident, staff members offered apologies and ultimately issued a full refund of ₹300 for the meal.

This isn't the first time Rameshwaram Cafe has made headlines; last March, an IED explosion at one of its locations in the city resulted in multiple injuries. In a separate incident in December 2024, a traveler at Jaipur International Airport discovered a cockroach in their bread pakora, raising significant concerns about food safety.

Around the same period, other alarming reports surfaced, including a taxi driver at Jaipur Airport finding a dead mouse in chocolate syrup and an insect in a Burger King burger. Earlier this month, a controversy erupted when Sanjay Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena MLA from Buldhana, accused the Akashwani canteen in Mumbai of serving substandard food.

Gaikwad claimed that his complaints were ignored by the staff. Following this, a video surfaced on social media showing him allegedly slapping a canteen worker. In response to the MLA's allegations, the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) temporarily revoked the license of Ajanta Caterers, which operated the Akashwani canteen.

FDA officials collected food samples from the canteen for analysis. Despite the growing controversy, Gaikwad stood firm, stating he had 'no regrets' about his actions and likening the canteen's food to poison.
