Guwahati, Apr 9: Women participating in the Assam Assembly elections on Thursday expressed their enthusiasm for the Women's Reservation Bill.
They commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiatives aimed at empowering women, expressing hope that the Bill will encourage more women to voice their opinions.
While waiting in line at a polling station, Sagarika remarked, "Women deserve equal rights as men because politics should be inclusive of both genders."
She added, "The progress of our nation relies on women's participation. A country advances through the contributions of its women, which is why I appreciate the steps taken by Prime Minister Modi."
Manju Das also praised the Prime Minister, stating, "He is doing commendable work, especially for the underprivileged."
Divyamani highlighted the historical constraints on women, saying, "In the past, women were often confined to their homes and silenced. With this Bill, women can finally advocate for themselves."
Young voters, including Luna, voiced their support for the Bill, emphasizing the challenges women face in the workplace. Luna expressed, "I hope the government introduces more initiatives for women's empowerment."
She continued, "If this Bill is enacted, it will be a significant advancement, especially for women in rural areas who continue to face struggles. It is essential for all women to achieve independence like men."
Notably, PM Modi released a video message on Thursday, calling for unified support for the Women's Reservation Bill.
The government intends to propose amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act (Women Reservation Act) during a special three-day session of Parliament commencing on April 16.
This Bill aims to reserve 33% of seats for women in both the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
In a signed article on his website, PM Modi encouraged citizens to read and disseminate the information widely, urging political parties to back the legislation.
He called for collective action during the Parliament sessions on April 16, 17, and 18.
