Life Sentence for Infanticide in Bulandshahr
A court in Bulandshahr has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the murder of her newborn granddaughter. The incident occurred in the Siyana area, where Meena, the grandmother, was found guilty of strangling her granddaughter, who was born on July 11, 2023, just two days later on July 13, in a hospital.
According to prosecutor Dhruv Kumar Verma, during police questioning, Meena expressed her fear that her son-in-law might consider taking a second wife due to the birth of another daughter, which led her to commit the heinous act against her own granddaughter.
A case was registered at the Siyana police station following the incident. Verma stated that after hearing arguments from both sides, Additional District Judge (Fast Track Court—Third) Shivanand convicted Meena of her granddaughter's murder, sentencing her to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹10,000.
