A wildfire has ignited in the Carolina Forest region of South Carolina, prompting emergency responders to take action. Horry County Fire Rescue reported that they received a call at 2:37 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a fire in the woods near North Shore Drive and Red Wolf Trail. The agency indicated that this is an ongoing situation, with the fire currently estimated to cover around seven acres.
In addition to local fire crews, the South Carolina Forestry Commission and Horry County Police Department are also involved in managing the incident. Residents in the vicinity have been cautioned that they might observe smoke and a sustained emergency presence in the area for the foreseeable future.
Local meteorologist Jamie Arnold expressed concern over the situation via social media, stating, "This does not look good. A new wildfire has broken out near The Farm in Carolina Forest close to Redwolf Trail." He noted that the smoke plume was significant and very active, as indicated by radar.
Images and videos shared on social media depict smoke billowing from wooded areas, with some reports suggesting the fire is situated behind a grocery store and close to residential properties. A local journalist confirmed that the wildfire started on Redwolf Trail, while others reported visibility of smoke from nearby roads and highways. The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, and firefighters are actively working to control the situation.
