Wild Boar Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Bagru Toll in Jaipur
Seizure of Wild Boars
The forest department successfully intercepted a truck loaded with 200 wild boars at the Bagru toll in Jaipur. This operation took place during a routine checkpoint where the team seized the vehicle transporting the animals illegally.
Late at night, the truck was apprehended during the blockade. It was found that approximately 200 common pigs and wild boars were being transported unlawfully from Gujarat to Delhi.
Acting on a tip-off, the forest department team set up the blockade and stopped the truck for questioning the driver. The driver was promptly taken to the Jhalana Leopard Reserve, where the condition of all the animals was assessed.
Senior officials from the forest department, including CWLW Arun Prasad and DCF Vijaypal Singh, were present at the scene. The department is now conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and is also looking into the transportation network involved.
The truck has been confiscated and is currently stationed at the Jhalana checkpoint. Reports indicate that the driver will face a hefty fine, while the wild boars will be released back into the forest.
It has been noted that wild boar populations thrive in forested or rural areas where food and shelter are abundant. These animals often cause damage to crops in nearby agricultural fields.
The illegal trade of wild boars is driven by the demand for their meat and tusks. It is important to highlight that wild boars are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, making their hunting and trafficking illegal.
