BJP Leader Supports Odisha's Investigation into Digha Temple

Kolkata: The Odisha government's directive for the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration in Puri to investigate the controversy surrounding the newly established Jagannath Temple, officially known as the Shree Jagannath Dham Cultural Centre in Digha, has received support from Agnimitra Paul, a BJP legislator and fashion designer from West Bengal.

Inaugurated on April 30, the temple has been labeled a cultural center by the West Bengal Government, likely to mitigate disputes over the use of public funds for religious constructions.

The primary concern raised by the Odisha government pertains to the designation of the Digha temple as 'Jagannath Dham'.

Paul expressed his agreement with the Odisha government's stance, stating that the controversies surrounding the Digha temple could hurt the sentiments of traditional Hindus, particularly those from Odisha who hold the Puri temple in high regard.

He criticized West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her actions, suggesting that her position does not exempt her from adhering to the Indian Constitution. He recalled her previous actions, such as inaugurating Durga Puja idols prematurely, which he believes undermines Hindu traditions.

Paul emphasized that while anyone can build a Jagannath Temple, it should not be labeled as a Dham, as there are four recognized Dhams in Hindu belief: Badrinath, Dwarka, Rameswaram, and Puri.

He further highlighted the ongoing violence and discrimination against Hindus in West Bengal, questioning whether the Chief Minister's actions are an attempt to appease minority groups. In this context, he deemed the Odisha government's actions as justified.
