The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha is demanding an apology from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for posting photos of the Puri Jagannath temple's interiors on social media. The ASI shared these images to highlight restoration work at the temple, but they were later deleted. BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty criticized the ASI's actions, claiming they hurt devotees' sentiments and posed security risks. He called for an unconditional apology and questioned how the ASI managed to take the photos, given the temple's strict rules against electronic devices. BJD's Outcry Over ASI's Social Media Post

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has called for an apology from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) after it shared images of the interior of the Puri Jagannath temple on social media.

On Monday, the ASI posted pictures showcasing the restoration efforts at the Ratna Bhandar of the historic 12th-century temple, which were subsequently removed.

During a press briefing, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty expressed that the ASI's actions have offended devotees and could jeopardize the temple's security.

He pointed out that photography and electronic devices are prohibited within the temple premises, questioning how the ASI, responsible for the temple's upkeep, managed to capture and share images of the Ratna Bhandar entrance and Bhog Mandap.

Mohanty insisted that the ASI must issue an unconditional apology and that the official accountable should face suspension.

Additionally, he requested clarification from the BJP-led state government and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan acknowledged the issue, stating, "Yes, this has come to our notice. The SJTA is fully free to take action in this regard."
