Why is the US Warning Its Citizens About Travel to India? Congress Raises Concerns!

Congress Criticizes US Travel Advisory
New Delhi: Following the issuance of a travel advisory by the US for its citizens visiting India, the Congress party has expressed that this action tarnishes the country's image and has urged the government to formally protest and address the issue at the highest levels.
The opposition party criticized the foreign policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming it has significantly deteriorated.
The advisory, released last week, cautions travelers about increased risks of crime and sexual assault, particularly in certain central and eastern regions of India, which are noted for terrorism.
It highlights that 'rape is one of the fastest-growing crimes in India' and warns that violent crimes, including sexual assaults, can occur at tourist attractions and other public places. The advisory also mentions potential terrorist threats to tourist sites, transport hubs, markets, and government buildings, which may happen unexpectedly.
During a press briefing at the Congress headquarters, spokesperson Supriya Shrinate pointed out that the US has categorized its advisory as Level 2, specifically advising women against traveling alone to India due to various reported incidents of sexual violence.
She emphasized that the advisory outlines a range of violent crimes and terror threats, stating that American officials must seek government permission before traveling to India. This advisory could have serious implications for India's international standing.
Shrinate further criticized the disparity in advisories, noting that no similar warnings have been issued for Pakistan, a country known for harboring terrorists like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed. She expressed concern over the US inviting Pakistan's Army Chief for a meal with President Trump while issuing advisories against India.
She described it as unacceptable for the Indian Prime Minister to be compared to Pakistan's military leadership.
According to Shrinate, Prime Minister Modi has devoted excessive time to engaging with foreign leaders, yet the outcomes have been disappointing, as evidenced by the current advisory.
She remarked that while the US issues travel warnings against India, it fails to address issues in Pakistan, leaving India as a silent observer.
The spokesperson highlighted the alarming statistics of crimes against women in India, stating that 43 women face such crimes every hour, which necessitates urgent attention and solutions.
She concluded by asserting that the Modi government's foreign policy has completely failed, especially at a time when India needs strong allies.
The advisory also warns against traveling to parts of Central and East India due to terrorism, mentioning the presence of Maoist extremist groups, or 'Naxalites', in extensive areas across the country.
US government employees in India are required to obtain permission before traveling to many regions, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Odisha, although permission is not needed for the capitals of these states.
