Why Did West Bengal's Sports Minister Resign After Messi's Event? The Shocking Details!
Resignation of West Bengal Sports Minister
In Kolkata, Aroop Biswas, the Sports Minister of West Bengal, tendered his resignation on Tuesday, citing moral accountability for the management failures during the event featuring Argentine football legend Lionel Messi at Salt Lake Stadium last Saturday.
The resignation was accepted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as confirmed by Kunal Ghosh, the spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress, through a social media update.
Ghosh mentioned that the Chief Minister's acceptance of Biswas's resignation was based on information from his sources, although there has been no official statement from the Chief Minister's office to verify this.
Currently, there has been no announcement regarding who will succeed Biswas in his role.
In a handwritten resignation letter written in Bengali, Biswas expressed that he is stepping down to maintain the integrity of the investigation initiated by a committee led by a retired judge from the Calcutta High Court.
He stated, 'I hope you will approve my request in the matter,' indicating that despite resigning from the Sports Minister position, he will remain a member of the state cabinet as the Power Minister.
Biswas faced intense backlash from various sectors, including civil society and opposition parties, due to the disarray at Salt Lake Stadium, which was marked by significant management issues.
The event was marred by chaos, with accusations of inadequate crowd control, damage to public property, and insufficient arrangements, leading to widespread discontent among attendees and civil society organizations.
Witnesses noted that Biswas was present at the stadium alongside Messi, and many spectators claimed that they were denied proper access to the football star while Biswas and his family were seen surrounding him.
These claims have fueled political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the state government of severe mismanagement and favoritism.
