Elangbam Johnson's Departure from BJP

Imphal: Elangbam Johnson, a prominent leader of the BJP in Manipur, announced his resignation from the party on Friday, expressing dissatisfaction with the state government's inability to meet the expectations of its citizens.

During a press briefing, Johnson, who represented the BJP in the 2022 assembly elections, confirmed that he would also step down from his role as the party's state spokesperson.

"Since May 3, 2023, we have not been able to align with the desires of the people. After consulting with my colleagues in Keisamthong, I have made the decision to leave the BJP. I am resigning from my position as state spokesperson and relinquishing my party membership," he stated.

Johnson highlighted that the government's failure to address the aspirations of the populace, particularly following the outbreak of ethnic violence in Manipur, was the primary factor behind his resignation.

The ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities has resulted in over 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced since May 2023.
