NSUI Activists Rally for Student Transport Rights

Bhubaneswar: Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest outside the Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Thursday, advocating for free travel on government buses and a 50% discount on private transport for students throughout Odisha.

The demonstration was spearheaded by NSUI state president Udit Pradhan, along with other activists and leaders from the Youth Congress, including Ranjit Patra and Manoj Biswal.

Protesters displayed placards and chanted slogans to voice their demands.

Following the rally, they submitted a memorandum to an RTO official, urging immediate action.

Pradhan emphasized, “In numerous regions where government transport is either limited or non-existent, students rely on private buses that often impose exorbitant fares.

Providing subsidized or free transport would enhance educational access and significantly lower dropout rates.”

He further stated, “Affordable transportation is not just a convenience; it is crucial for ensuring equitable access to education.

The state must take swift action to implement these initiatives for the benefit of students.” NSUI has called on the Transport department to address their requests urgently, warning that protests may escalate if their concerns remain unaddressed.
