India's Commitment to Africa


New Delhi: On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the pivotal role Africa plays in India's foreign policy, highlighting that New Delhi's approach is founded on principles of equality, mutual respect, and collective advancement.


Speaking at the launch of the logo, theme, and website for the forthcoming India-Africa Forum Summit-IV, Jaishankar remarked on the significance of this event in strengthening the longstanding partnership between India and Africa.


He noted that the relationship between India and Africa is deeply rooted in historical connections, cultivated over centuries through cultural exchanges and interpersonal relationships.


Jaishankar pointed out that India's support for African nations during their fight against colonialism further solidified these ties.


He stated that the narrative of India's struggle for independence is intricately linked to Africa's journey.


The minister remarked, "Our shared history of resilience, solidarity, and aspirations continues to define our partnership today."


Jaishankar reiterated that Africa is now a focal point in India's foreign policy.


He added that India's strategy towards Africa is driven by a clear vision based on equality, mutual respect, and shared growth.


The minister highlighted that the vision for a developed India by 2047 aligns with Africa's Agenda 2063, both aiming for prosperity through sustainable and inclusive development.


He also mentioned that the relationship between India and Africa has expanded significantly, marked by numerous high-level political engagements, with India advocating for Africa's rightful role in global governance.


A notable achievement in this regard was the African Union's inclusion in the G20 during India's presidency in 2023, which Jaishankar described as a "seminal step."


He concluded by asserting that the perspectives of the Global South must influence global governance in the future.
