Why Activist Sonam Wangchuk's Hunger Strike is Capturing National Attention
Protests at Jantar Mantar: A Call for Change
New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is scheduled to meet with activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar on Thursday. This announcement was made by party MLA Sanjeev Jha, who encouraged citizens to participate in the ongoing protest against alleged irregularities in examinations.
Jha emphasized that the demonstration aims to advocate for a transparent examination process and better job opportunities for the youth of India.
In a video shared on X, he highlighted that Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 17 days, not for personal gain, but to champion the future of young individuals and push for reforms in the examination system.
Describing Wangchuk as a dedicated social worker focused on water conservation and sustainable development in Ladakh, Jha noted that the activist's health has significantly declined due to his extended fast.
Having met with Wangchuk two days prior, Jha urged him to conclude the hunger strike; however, the activist remains resolute in his protest until the issues affecting the youth are addressed.
Jha accused the government of allowing repeated examination paper leaks, which he claims are robbing deserving candidates of job opportunities, thereby impacting the future of the nation's youth.
He announced that Kejriwal would arrive at Jantar Mantar at 4 PM on Thursday to show his support for Wangchuk and called on people from Delhi and beyond to join the protest.
Additionally, Jha alleged that the government is neglecting the protesters' concerns and stated that the agitation would persist until a fair examination system is established.
He also called for the resignation of the Union education minister due to the alleged mismanagement of examinations.
