New Developments in Vice Presidential Election


New Delhi: On Friday, the Election Commission announced the appointment of P C Mody, the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, as the returning officer for the upcoming vice presidential election.


This election has become necessary following the unexpected resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the vice presidency on Monday, which he attributed to health concerns.


The Election Commission confirmed that Mody's appointment was made in consultation with the Ministry of Law and Justice and with the approval of the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha.


Additionally, Garima Jain, who serves as Joint Secretary in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, and Vijay Kumar, a Director in the same Secretariat, have been designated as assistant returning officers for the election process.
