New Delhi: On Saturday, a significant gathering took place at the Parliament Complex to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi were among the prominent figures who paid their respects with floral tributes.
Other notable attendees included Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Leader J.P. Nadda, and Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, all honoring the legacy of this influential social reformer.
Jyotirao Phule, a pivotal figure in 19th-century India, was a staunch advocate for women's education and the upliftment of marginalized communities. He established the Satyashodhak Samaj, an organization dedicated to promoting equality, education, and social justice.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi took to social media to express his admiration for Phule, describing him as a visionary who devoted his life to the principles of equality, justice, and education.
As the nation embarks on the celebrations for Phule's 200th birth anniversary, the Prime Minister emphasized that Phule's philosophies continue to inspire societal progress and empowerment.
In his post, PM Modi stated, "On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, I pay tribute to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice, and education. He was a trailblazer in advocating for the rights of women and marginalized groups. His efforts transformed education into a powerful tool for empowerment. Additionally, the Prime Minister shared a blog titled 'Mahatma Jyotirao Phule: A Light That Still Shows India the Way,' highlighting the enduring relevance of Phule's focus on education and welfare in today's world.
He remarked that Phule serves as a beacon for many, with his life's message continuing to motivate future generations.
In his blog, PM Modi reflected, "Today, April 11, is a profoundly significant day for us all. It marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, one of India's most esteemed social reformers and a guiding light for generations. This year, the occasion holds even more importance as we kick off his 200th birth anniversary celebrations."
