Arrest of Suspect in Death Threat Case

New Delhi: A man has been taken into custody by the North-West District Special Staff of the Delhi Police after allegedly threatening Chief Minister Rekha Gupta with death.

The suspect was located and arrested in Ghaziabad following prompt investigative actions after the threatening call was made late Thursday night.

Police reports indicate that the threat was directed to the Ghaziabad Police Control Room (PCR) while the individual was reportedly intoxicated.

Upon receiving the threat, the Delhi Police Control Room was notified, and the situation was escalated due to the high-profile nature of the target.

Investigators were able to identify the caller and trace his location, but he had turned off his mobile phone by the time authorities arrived.

After extensive tracking, the Special Staff successfully apprehended him at a hideout in Ghaziabad.

Initial questioning revealed that the suspect is a law graduate (LLB) who has been experiencing personal difficulties following a troubled marriage. His wife had recently left him, which allegedly led to his emotional distress.

Prior to making the death threat, he had attempted to contact his wife, according to police.

Notably, the suspect was found with counterfeit identification cards resembling police credentials, raising concerns about possible impersonation of law enforcement.

Officers noted that he attempted to mislead them during the interrogation.

A senior officer from the Delhi Police stated, “Security agencies assess the threat levels for VIPs or VVIPs under the guidance of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).”

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is entitled to Z-category security as per standard protocols. Following this incident, security agencies are expected to review her security arrangements.

The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain if the suspect has any previous criminal records or connections to other unlawful activities.

Additionally, authorities have initiated a separate inquiry into the forged police IDs found in his possession.
