Sambalpur: Subodh Singh, aged 28, has been identified as the main suspect in the notorious armed robbery that took place at the Manappuram Gold Loan branch located in Budharaja, Sambalpur. Following a 10-day police remand, he was placed in judicial custody on Monday.


Earlier that day, Singh underwent a compulsory medical examination under strict security at the district headquarters hospital. Subsequently, he was presented before the SDJM court, which ordered his remand to judicial custody, leading to his transfer to the local sub-jail.


While in police custody, Singh was extensively interrogated regarding the brazen robbery that occurred on January 3 in one of the city's most bustling areas. The assailants, armed with firearms, made off with around 30 kg of gold and over ₹4.5 lakh in cash.


Police sources indicate that Singh disclosed several significant leads during his questioning, which not only pertain to the gold heist but also to other criminal activities he may be involved in, including potential accomplices.


To date, the Sambalpur police have apprehended four individuals, including Singh, in connection with this robbery. However, the stolen gold and cash remain unrecovered.
