Appointment of Sanjeev Jain as Ambassador
New Delhi: On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revealed the appointment of Sanjeev Jain as the new Ambassador of India to South Korea.
According to a press release from the MEA, "Shri Sanjeev Jain (YOA: 2008), who is currently serving as the Ambassador of India to Cabo Verde, has been designated as the next Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea."
He is anticipated to assume his new role soon.
Jain previously held the distinction of being the inaugural Ambassador of India to Cabo Verde, where he resided.
With extensive experience across various domains such as parliamentary affairs, administration, consular services, media relations, science and technology collaboration, cultural exchanges, community issues, and trade, Jain brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position.
His career includes significant roles in Indian Embassies and Consulates located in cities like Dubai, Paris, Kandy, Berlin, Tokyo, and Osaka.
Prior to his role in Cabo Verde, he was stationed at the MEA headquarters, focusing on ASEAN countries. Jain also played a key role in organizing multilateral events, including the BRICS Summit held in Goa.
He will take over from Gourangalal Das, the current Indian Ambassador to South Korea.
India and South Korea established diplomatic relations on December 10, 1973, with consular ties dating back to 1962. The two nations formed a 'Strategic Partnership' in 2010, which was upgraded to a 'Special Strategic Partnership' in 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Seoul. This year, both countries celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations.
In a notable event, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung visited India from April 19-21, marking the first visit by a Korean President to India since taking office. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials, and prominent CEOs from Korean companies.
