Who is Hardeep Singh Puri? BJP's New Candidate for Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha Bypoll!
BJP Selects Hardeep Singh Puri for Rajya Sabha Bypoll
New Delhi: On Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will be their candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Madhya Pradesh.
The party's central election committee has officially endorsed Puri's nomination for the bypoll, according to a statement released by the BJP.
At 74 years old, Puri is currently the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. His tenure as a Rajya Sabha member representing Uttar Pradesh is set to conclude on November 25.
The bypoll in Madhya Pradesh is scheduled for November 12, aiming to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of former Union Minister L. Murugan.
Murugan resigned from both the Union council of ministers and the Rajya Sabha on October 14. He previously held the position of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Broadcasting.
His term was expected to last until April 2, 2030. Upon his resignation, Murugan expressed his intention to concentrate on bolstering the BJP's presence in Tamil Nadu.
Given that the BJP governs Madhya Pradesh, Puri's candidacy is likely to face minimal opposition in the upcoming bypoll.
Rajya Sabha members are elected by the members of legislative assemblies, and the counting of votes will occur on the evening of the election day.
