What’s on the Agenda for the Upcoming Security Review Meeting in Jammu and Kashmir?
High-Level Security Review Meeting Scheduled
In Jammu, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is set to lead a crucial security review meeting focused on Jammu and Kashmir via video conference on Monday.
During this meeting, officials will assess both the security and financial status of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for the current fiscal year and the upcoming 2026-2027 period.
Attendees will include J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, senior police officials, and the two Inspector Generals overseeing the Kashmir and Jammu divisions. The meeting is scheduled to commence at 2:30 PM.
This session marks the first high-level evaluation of the security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir since the recent elimination of four prominent terrorists from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group, including their commander Saifullah, in Kishtwar district last month.
Sources indicate that the meeting will also focus on strategies to enhance anti-terror operations in the mountainous and forested areas of the Union Territory, particularly in Jammu, where foreign terrorists are believed to be hiding.
As summer approaches, there will be an increase in anti-terror initiatives, according to insiders.
The Union Home Ministry is urging security forces to intensify their efforts against the terrorists in hiding.
In addition to the Army and paramilitary forces, specially trained personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG) have been deployed in the regions where terrorists are suspected to be concealed.
The SOG members are adept at conducting anti-terror operations in challenging terrains and adverse weather conditions.
The existence of an overground network supporting the terrorists continues to be a significant concern for security agencies. Sources suggest that dismantling this network is crucial for the survival of the terrorists, and efforts are underway to achieve this.
Reports indicate that some overground worker networks have been disrupted, with police close to dismantling additional syndicates. The financial status of Jammu and Kashmir will also be a key topic during the meeting.
The meeting will address the budget expenditures for the current financial year, which has only ten days remaining, and the police's requirements for the next fiscal year, as the Jammu and Kashmir Police's budget is now directly funded by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have modernized significantly, equipped with advanced weapons and technology to combat terrorism and various crimes.
However, modernization is an ongoing effort, and additional measures are being implemented. Other topics, including follow-ups from previous meetings led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, will also be discussed.
It is noteworthy that Amit Shah visited the Jammu region from February 5-7, where he chaired high-level security and development meetings.
The revised strategy aims to target terrorists, their overground workers, and sympathizers to dismantle the terror support system in the Union Territory completely.
Additionally, drug traffickers and those involved in hawala money operations are under scrutiny, as it is believed that the funds generated from these activities are ultimately used to finance terrorism.
