CBI Summons TVK Leader Vijay Again

Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to appear in New Delhi once more on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic stampede in Karur.

This case stems from a political rally that took place on September 27, 2025, where Vijay was actively campaigning for his party.

The event attracted a large crowd, resulting in a catastrophic stampede that led to the loss of 41 lives.

The incident shocked Tamil Nadu and sparked significant public outrage, leading to a comprehensive investigation.

The CBI's inquiry is being overseen by a committee led by retired Supreme Court Justice Ajay Rastogi.

Recently, the agency has ramped up its efforts to uncover the factors that contributed to this disaster.

As part of the investigation, several senior officials from TVK have already been interrogated, including general secretary Bussi Anand, Election Management Division general secretary Adhav Arjuna, joint general secretary Nirmal Kumar, and Karur district secretary Mathiyazhagan.

Last month, both Bussi Anand and Adhav Arjuna appeared at the CBI's Delhi office to provide detailed accounts of the events.

Following the information gathered, the CBI has decided to question Vijay directly about his involvement and responsibilities related to the Karur event.

He was previously summoned to the CBI office in Delhi on January 12 at 11 a.m., where he complied and underwent extensive questioning.

During this session, CBI officials posed critical questions regarding the organization of the Karur event, Vijay's prior knowledge of the arrangements, the reasons behind his late arrival, and any measures taken to manage the crowd.

Investigators also inquired about when he became aware of the crowd's size, whether local authorities had informed him beforehand, and what provisions were made for water, security, and safe access and exit routes.

Sources indicate that Vijay answered all inquiries and provided thorough explanations before returning to Chennai.

After the Pongal festival, the CBI has summoned him again for further questioning. Reports suggest that Vijay is set to travel to Delhi this evening for his next appearance as the agency continues to unravel the accountability surrounding the Karur tragedy.
