India and US Discuss Key Trade Agreement Issues
New Delhi: A two-day ministerial meeting in New Delhi saw India and the United States evaluate critical aspects of their proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). Key topics included improving market access, advancing digital trade, and minimizing non-tariff barriers, as stated in an official announcement on Wednesday.
The discussions were led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
The focus was on establishing a pathway to finalize an interim agreement, which is seen as a significant step towards a more comprehensive BTA, according to the commerce ministry.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to crafting an agreement that is equitable, commercially viable, and beneficial for businesses, farmers, workers, and consumers in both nations.
The two leaders conducted an in-depth review of essential BTA components, such as enhanced market access, digital trade, supply chain resilience, and increased collaboration in strategic sectors.
They also acknowledged the considerable advancements made by negotiating teams in recent months.
Confidence was expressed that the ongoing negotiations would further enhance economic relations and fortify the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
