What’s Next for India-US Trade Relations After Recent Talks?

India and US Conclude Productive Trade Discussions

New Delhi: On Friday, the Indian government announced the conclusion of three days of trade negotiations with US officials, which wrapped up on April 23. Both nations expressed their commitment to maintaining the momentum of these discussions.

The talks covered a variety of topics, including market access, non-tariff measures, technical trade barriers, customs facilitation, investment promotion, economic security alignment, and digital trade, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The discussions were characterized by a constructive atmosphere, with both parties engaging in meaningful dialogue that facilitated progress on significant issues. They agreed to continue their engagement to uphold this positive momentum.

Earlier, on February 7, India and the US released a joint statement that established a framework for an interim trade agreement aimed at fostering reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.

This framework reiterated the commitment of both countries to advance the broader negotiations for the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

The Indian delegation has traveled to Washington, D.C. for in-person meetings with their US counterparts to finalize the interim agreement's details and further the broader BTA negotiations.
