What’s Next for Bihar's Nitish Kumar? Key Political Moves Ahead!
Nitish Kumar's Upcoming Rajya Sabha Oath
Patna: Sources indicate that Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, is set to take his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. He is expected to head to Delhi on April 8 or 9 to finalize the necessary procedures in the Upper House.
Upon his return to Patna, it is anticipated that Kumar will resign from his Chief Ministerial role shortly after April 13.
Political activities are expected to intensify following April 14, marking the end of the 'Kharmas' period, which is traditionally viewed as inauspicious in Hindu culture.
In the meantime, the Bihar Home Department has confirmed that Kumar will retain his ‘Z Plus’ security status even after he steps down as Chief Minister.
A directive from the Special Branch states that his security will remain in place once he assumes his role in the Rajya Sabha.
This decision was made following an assessment of his security needs under the Bihar Special Security Act of 2000.
The Director General of Police and the Special Branch have been tasked with ensuring his protection at the highest level.
The ‘Z Plus’ security category is the most comprehensive in India, typically reserved for high-ranking officials such as the Prime Minister and President, involving a robust security framework with approximately 55 personnel, including Personal Security Officers, armed guards, escort vehicles, and continuous surveillance.
Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30.
His formal induction into the Upper House is anticipated to signify a pivotal political shift in Bihar.
Additionally, Kumar has recently evaluated a government residence at 7 Circular Road, which he is likely to occupy after leaving his Chief Minister position.
This residence is politically significant, as it has been his base during crucial periods of his political journey.
With these developments, Bihar's political scene is on the brink of a substantial transformation in the near future.
