What’s Fueling the Ongoing Protest by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar?
Protest Continues at Jantar Mantar
New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been stationed at Jantar Mantar for three days, protesting against alleged irregularities in examinations and the NEET paper leak that occurred on May 3.
The sit-in, which commenced on Saturday afternoon, persisted overnight, with demonstrators remaining at the location under police supervision.
Supporters were seen providing food and water to those involved in the protest throughout the night.
CJP's founder, Abhijeet Dipke, announced on Sunday that the protest would extend into Monday, urging farmer unions and the public to lend their support.
The protest site was lively on Sunday, filled with slogans, speeches, and cultural displays, as attendees clapped, played daflis, and sang patriotic songs. Organizers reported that over 200 individuals had gathered by evening.
Dipke has called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing a lack of accountability regarding the examination issues.
He has also demanded compensation for families of students who reportedly took their own lives following the paper leak and has called for the cancellation of the examination.
On Sunday, Dipke urged officials to allow unrestricted access to the protest area and to restore water supply to public restrooms. Protesters had claimed that basic facilities were disrupted, although they later confirmed that drinking water access had been reinstated.
The CJP has stated that their protest will persist until their demands are met. Organizers anticipate that farmer groups will join the demonstration throughout the day.
The protest is being conducted under tight security, with police personnel present and barricades set up around the area.
This marks the second protest organized by the CJP at Jantar Mantar concerning the alleged paper leaks and demands for government accountability.
