Indian Delegation Embarks on Diplomatic Journey in Colombia

Bogota: An all-party delegation from India, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has landed in Colombia as part of its Latin American diplomatic outreach, following a visit to Panama. The primary aim is to reinforce India's unwavering stance against terrorism.

Tharoor provided updates from Bogota through social media, expressing enthusiasm about the productive commencement of their Colombian visit.

He shared, “Our Colombia visit commenced today with a briefing from our Ambassador, Vanlalhuma, followed by a press interaction that attracted over a dozen local media outlets. I also participated in an interview with Colombian journalist Juan Camillo Ramirez. We are ensuring our message reaches the right audience!”

The delegation includes MPs Sarfraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Milind Murli Deora, Bhubaneswar Kalita, and Tejasvi Surya, along with Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu. They arrived in Colombia on Thursday night as part of the Indian Government's broader diplomatic initiative known as Operation Sindoor.

Scheduled from May 29 to 31, this visit emphasizes India's firm position against terrorism and aims to enhance relationships with strategic partners in Latin America.

During the next two days, the delegation will meet with Colombian lawmakers, ministers, policy think tanks, and media representatives to promote India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

This visit follows a significant diplomatic engagement in Panama, where the Indian delegation was welcomed by the Ambassador of India to Panama, Sumit Seth.

Reflecting on the Panama leg, Tharoor noted, “Our trip concluded with a grand reception hosted by Ambassador Seth for the diplomatic community and prominent Panamanian figures. The Foreign Minister and Vice-Minister Carlos Hoyos expressed strong support for India’s fight against terrorism and emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between our nations.”

The delegation's Latin American tour aims to showcase India's global stance against terrorism and highlight the issue of Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism.
