Odisha to Introduce Free Hearse Service


Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to provide respectful transportation for deceased individuals, the Odisha government is set to launch a complimentary hearse service named ‘109’. This initiative aims to alleviate the emotional and financial strain on grieving families. The detailed plan for this service is expected to be finalized on July 2, according to officials familiar with the matter.


A preliminary discussion led by the Health Secretary has already taken place. The finalization of the service's blueprint will occur during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on July 2.


In a correspondence dated June 24, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aswathy S emphasized the need for interdepartmental collaboration to create a comprehensive policy, as a draft guideline for the proposed service is currently being developed.
