What to Expect at the Cockroach Janta Party's Upcoming Protest: A Call for Change
Protest Against Exam Irregularities and Student Suicides
New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is gearing up for its second significant protest at Jantar Mantar this Saturday. Founder Abhijeet Dipke has called on attendees to bring "plates and spoons" as the group amplifies its campaign against exam paper leaks and the alarming rise in student suicides.
Set to commence at 1 PM, the protest is anticipated to attract students from Delhi and nearby regions.
In a social media message, Dipke encouraged participants to come equipped with plates and spoons.
Previously, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had invited artists and musicians to join the cause.
On Friday, Dipke penned an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his deep concerns regarding the escalating crisis impacting students and demanding government accountability.
In his letter, he urged the government to allocate Rs 1 crore in compensation to the families of students who have tragically taken their own lives amid examination-related issues, citing that 11 students have committed suicide in recent weeks.
Additionally, he called for the dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to the NEET paper leak scandal.
"The Cockroach Janta Party has been advocating for the education minister's resignation for the past month and has organized protests nationwide to voice our demands. All we seek is accountability for the lives lost," Dipke stated in his letter.
This upcoming protest follows a previous demonstration held by the group at Jantar Mantar on June 6, where hundreds of students and young professionals rallied for action against irregularities in entrance exams and recruitment processes.
The organization has since broadened its campaign to various cities, continuing to demand accountability in examination-related issues, with Pradhan's resignation remaining a key objective.
In preparation for Saturday's protest, security measures have been heightened throughout the national capital.
The Delhi Police confirmed that the CJP has received permission to conduct the demonstration.
CCTV cameras have been installed in and around Jantar Mantar for real-time surveillance, and approximately 270 body-worn cameras will be utilized by police officers stationed at the location.
Videographers from the Delhi Police have been assigned to document the protest and any developments that occur. Multiple layers of barricades have been set up around Jantar Mantar and nearby roads, with vehicle checks being conducted at major entry and exit points in the city.
According to police sources, reserve forces are on standby, and senior officers have been designated to oversee security operations.
The Special Branch is actively monitoring developments and social media activity related to the protest, officials reported. Security has also been enhanced at key transport hubs, including the airport, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, and border crossings.
Traffic diversions may be implemented based on the size of the crowd, although metro services are expected to run as usual, according to police.
