What Sparked Outrage Over Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's Controversial Veil Incident?
Political Leaders Condemn Nitish Kumar's Actions
Srinagar/Patna: The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and current president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, along with National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has strongly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following a controversial incident involving a young Muslim woman.
Mufti expressed her dismay over Kumar's actions, where he was seen removing the 'naqaab' of the woman. She described the event as shocking and deeply troubling, stating that she had previously respected Kumar but was taken aback by the incident's visuals.
She raised concerns about whether this behavior was a result of aging or indicative of a troubling trend of publicly humiliating Muslims. Mufti emphasized that the most disturbing part was the onlookers who treated the incident as entertainment, questioning the expected decorum from public officials.
Taking a firm political stance, Mufti suggested that Kumar should reflect on his actions and consider resigning, as such behavior diminishes the dignity of minorities and undermines public trust in democratic governance.
Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi also condemned Kumar's actions, stating on social media that the act of pulling at a Muslim woman's burqa was unacceptable and alarming. He called for an unconditional apology from Kumar, suggesting that his behavior indicated a lack of the necessary composure for someone in a constitutional role and recommended he seek medical help and step down.
The incident has sparked significant backlash on social media and within political circles, raising questions about Kumar's respect for personal and religious dignity. A viral video captured the moment during a felicitation event, 'Samvad', at the Chief Minister's secretariat, where over 1,000 AYUSH doctors received appointment letters.
