Recognition for Community Impact
Bhubaneswar: Radio Namaskar, the pioneering community radio station in Odisha, has once again been acknowledged for its significant role in community media and its commitment to sustainable broadcasting.
During the National Community Radio Sammelan held on Saturday at the Jio Centre in Mumbai, the station received the prestigious National Community Radio Award from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), marking its sixth accolade.
The award was conferred by L Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, at the WAVES event of the Sammelan. Established in 2010 in Konark by the national development organization Young India, Radio Namaskar has emerged as a crucial platform for addressing local issues.
The station broadcasts to over 700 villages in the Puri district, catering to a community of approximately 300,000 residents with its people-centric programming.
Andaz Aaron, the programme head of Radio Namaskar and a well-respected figure in community media, accepted the award on behalf of the station.
This recognition underscores the station's unwavering commitment to empowering communities through effective communication, now bolstered by six National Community Radio Awards from MIB.
In an exciting development, Young India is also in the process of establishing the Asia Centre for Community Media at the Konark campus of Radio Namaskar.
