Government Response to IndiGo Flight Disruptions

New Delhi: On Friday, the government announced the initiation of a high-level investigation into the significant disruptions experienced by IndiGo Airlines. This inquiry aims to identify the underlying issues, assign accountability where necessary, and propose strategies to prevent future occurrences, ensuring that passengers do not endure similar difficulties again.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that thousands of travelers faced considerable challenges at airports nationwide. He expressed optimism that flight schedules would stabilize and return to normal by the following day, with full service restoration expected within three days.

To assist affected passengers, airlines have been directed to provide timely and accurate updates via improved online systems, allowing travelers to check real-time flight statuses from home.

In the event of flight cancellations, airlines will automatically issue full refunds without requiring passengers to submit requests. Additionally, those stranded due to extended delays will receive hotel accommodations arranged directly by the airlines.

The ministry has implemented urgent measures to tackle the ongoing disruptions, particularly concerning IndiGo Airlines. The Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders from the DGCA have been suspended immediately.

The minister emphasized that this decision, made without compromising air safety, is intended to benefit passengers, especially senior citizens, students, patients, and others who depend on timely air travel for essential needs.

Furthermore, various operational strategies have been put in place to ensure the swift restoration of normal airline services and to significantly alleviate the inconvenience faced by travelers.

A 24/7 control room has also been established by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to monitor the situation in real-time, ensuring prompt corrective actions, effective coordination, and immediate resolution of any issues that arise.
