Prime Minister Modi Honored in Ghana


Accra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, a significant national accolade, recognizing his "exceptional statesmanship and impactful global leadership".


The award was presented to Modi on Wednesday by Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama.


In a post on X, Modi expressed his gratitude, stating, "Honoured to receive ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’.”


During his acceptance speech, he conveyed that this recognition is a source of immense pride and honor.


Modi dedicated the award to the aspirations and promising future of the youth in both nations, as well as to the historical connections and cultural richness shared between India and Ghana.


He remarked, "This honor also brings a responsibility to strengthen the friendship between India and Ghana. India will always support the people of Ghana and act as a reliable friend and development partner," as noted in his X post.


The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the award was given in acknowledgment of Modi's "distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership".


Expressing his thanks to the Ghanaian people and government for this special recognition, Modi emphasized that the shared democratic values and traditions would continue to enhance the partnership.





He noted that this award "further strengthens the friendship between our nations and adds new responsibilities to advance bilateral relations."


Modi expressed optimism that his "historic" visit to Ghana would inject new energy into India-Ghana relations, according to the MEA.


The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, referred to the award as a testament to the enduring and deep-rooted ties between India and Ghana.


Earlier, Modi engaged in extensive discussions with Mahama, resulting in the elevation of India-Ghana relations to a comprehensive partnership.





Currently, the Prime Minister is in Ghana as part of his five-nation tour, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in thirty years.
