What Key Issues Are on the Agenda at the Congress Working Committee Meeting?
CWC Meeting Chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge
New Delhi: On Saturday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge led a significant meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at the AICC headquarters located in Indira Bhawan, New Delhi.
The ongoing high-level discussions are being attended by prominent figures including Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, and various senior party officials.
Notable attendees include Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Telangana's Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, senior leader Harish Rawat, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, former MP Salman Khurshid, and MPs Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Rajeev Shukla.
Shashi Tharoor, a Congress MP, was also present at the meeting, despite having made recent comments that seemed to diverge from the party's official position.
Harish Rawat emphasized the significance of the meeting, stating, "It is unimaginable that in independent India, Mahatma Gandhi's name could be removed from the MGNREGA. This decision is entirely unacceptable."
M. Veerappa Moily, another Congress leader, mentioned to a news outlet that crucial national issues would be addressed during the discussions.
Sources indicate that the CWC is likely to focus on strategies for launching a significant movement against the VB G-RAM-G Act.
Topics such as the National Herald case, concerns regarding the Aravalli region, and other vital political matters are also expected to be key points of discussion.
Meanwhile, outside the AICC headquarters, a group of approximately twelve protesters gathered, advocating for Karnataka's current Home Minister G. Parameshwara to be appointed as the next Chief Minister.
The demonstrators chanted slogans and held up posters to attract the attention of the Congress leadership, calling for the promotion of Dalit leadership and asserting that it is time for a Dalit Chief Minister in Karnataka.
