Strengthening Ties: PM Modi Meets Seychelles President

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House in Seychelles. The agenda included a comprehensive review of their bilateral cooperation and deliberations on various regional and global matters of shared interest.

The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with other officials.

Before the discussions commenced, PM Modi received a Guard of Honour at the State House.

On the previous day, PM Modi presented several gifts to Seychelles, including the 'Made in India' Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR, six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser radial boats, aimed at enhancing Seychelles' maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) capabilities.

This ceremony took place at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria, marking the first day of PM Modi's State Visit to the island nation.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the FPV will significantly bolster Seychelles' maritime security efforts. Additionally, the other vehicles and boats are expected to aid in the country's development and security initiatives. This aligns with India's Vision MAHASAGAR, which emphasizes strengthening defense partnerships in the Indian Ocean region.

During the visit, both leaders also planted a sapling of the rare 'Coco de Mer' palm at the Seychelles National Botanical Garden.

PM Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country's National Day as the Guest of Honour, further solidifying bilateral ties.

After the national anthems were played, PM Modi and President Herminie received military honors during the Guard of Honour.

The Prime Minister was also treated to a vibrant cultural welcome, featuring a traditional Seychellois moutya dance performance, followed by a presentation of Nrutya, a folk dance from Kutch, Gujarat, in his honor.

This visit marks PM Modi's second official trip to Seychelles, following President Herminie's six-day visit to India earlier this year.

The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between India and Seychelles, which is founded on historical, cultural, and people-to-people connections. As a vital maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles is integral to India's Vision MAHASAGAR and its commitment to the Global South.

PM Modi's visit is expected to reinforce the strong friendship between the two nations and enhance their collaborative efforts across various sectors.
