Strengthening India-Japan Relations
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in summit discussions with Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, concentrating on enhancing economic collaboration, fortifying resilient semiconductor supply chains, and advancing partnerships in essential technologies.
Post-discussions, both nations are anticipated to release a joint declaration focusing on economic security and a collaborative statement regarding artificial intelligence initiatives.
According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, the summit aims to advance a partnership built on trust, shared values, and strategic alignment.
The leaders are also set to explore avenues for increased collaboration in critical minerals and pharmaceuticals.
Takaichi's visit to India spans three days.
The relationship between India and Japan has seen significant growth, having been elevated to a Special Strategic and Global Partnership in 2014.
As both countries prepare to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2027, their cooperation is expanding across various sectors, including trade, investment, economic security, defense, technology, culture, and interpersonal connections. Currently, there are over 70 dialogue mechanisms in place to facilitate this partnership.
Last August, PM Modi attended the 15th Annual Summit in Tokyo, which serves as the primary platform for steering the strategic agenda of their partnership.
