Brazil Bestows Prestigious Award on PM Modi

In Brasilia, Brazil honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest distinction, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, during his ongoing State Visit on Tuesday.

This accolade marks the 26th international recognition for PM Modi and the third award he has received during his current five-nation tour, which commenced on July 2.

On Friday, he became the first foreign leader to receive 'The Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago', the highest civilian honor from the Caribbean nation, during a two-day visit to Port of Spain.

Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister, Kamala Persad Bissessar, praised PM Modi, stating that the award acknowledges his global leadership, strong connections with the Indian diaspora, and humanitarian contributions during the COVID-19 crisis.

Earlier, on Wednesday, PM Modi was awarded the 'Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana' by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama in Accra, recognizing his 'distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership' just before heading to Trinidad.

Analysts suggest that these awards highlight PM Modi's unparalleled global influence, asserting that no Indian Prime Minister has made such a significant impact on the world stage as a committed advocate for regional peace, development, and spiritual diplomacy.

A former diplomat remarked, 'For the first time, India's foreign policy is unapologetically 'India First'—clear, confident, and consistent. The world is not just observing; it is recognizing and respecting this new India.'

In June, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides awarded PM Modi the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

Earlier this year, both Mauritius and Sri Lanka honored PM Modi with their highest civilian awards.

In April, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented PM Modi with the 'Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana', the highest civilian honor for Heads of State and Government, celebrating his efforts to enhance bilateral relations.

This award was seen as a strong symbol of shared destinies, spiritual connections, and a vision for progress based on mutual respect and trust between the two nations.

In March, during National Day celebrations in Port Louis, Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool also awarded PM Modi the 'Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean' (GCSK), marking the first time an Indian leader received this honor.

On Tuesday, PM Modi received a warm welcome from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the Alvorada Palace in Brasilia, following his participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

After a ceremonial welcome featuring 114 horses escorting PM Modi's vehicle, along with military honors and delegate introductions, both leaders engaged in a restricted meeting, which will be followed by broader discussions.

A signing ceremony for various agreements is planned, along with statements to the press from both leaders. PM Modi will also be honored with a State Lunch at the Alvorada Palace.
