Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an evening meal and a tour of the renowned Colosseum, setting the stage for their upcoming discussions aimed at enhancing the relationship between India and Italy.
Modi's visit to Italy marks the final stop of his five-nation tour that began on May 15, which included stops in the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway.
Upon his arrival in Rome, Modi expressed his pleasure at dining with Meloni and visiting the historic Colosseum, sharing insights on various topics through a social media update.
He eagerly anticipated formal discussions with Meloni scheduled for Wednesday, focusing on strategies to strengthen the India-Italy partnership.
The Colosseum, an iconic elliptical amphitheater located in the heart of Rome, holds the title of the largest ancient amphitheater ever constructed.
Thanking the Indian community in Italy for their warm reception, Modi acknowledged their dedication to fostering India-Italy relations.
He remarked on their profound love for India and their efforts to enhance bilateral ties, stating that the Indian diaspora continues to elevate India's stature globally.
According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Modi was greeted with enthusiasm by the vibrant Indian community upon his arrival in Rome.
The prime minister enjoyed a variety of colorful performances, including traditional Indian dance forms such as Kathak, Kuchipudi, and Bharatnatyam, presented by Italian artists.
The event also featured a beautiful performance of Indian classical music by local musicians, showcasing instruments like the Santoor, Tabla, Bansuri, and Sitar, reflecting the richness of India's musical heritage.
In another social media update, Modi shared his encounter with Italian artist Giampaolo Tomassetti, who gifted him a painting inspired by Varanasi.
Modi noted Tomassetti's longstanding passion for Indian culture, which dates back over forty years.
Starting in the 1980s as an illustrator for Vedic culture books, Tomassetti dedicated himself to creating 23 large paintings related to the Mahabharata between 2008 and 2013.
The prime minister also highlighted the growing popularity of Indian music in Italy, mentioning a performance of Hamsadhwani by five Italian artists during the community welcome in Rome.
He extended his compliments to the musicians: Mr. Valerio Bruni (Santoor), Mr. Leo Vertunni (Sitar), Mr. Simone Mattiello (Bansuri), Mr. Francesco Gherardi (Tabla), and Mr. Nicolo Mellochi (Bansuri).
