Accident Involving Rahul Gandhi's Convoy

New Delhi: A collision involving multiple vehicles from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's convoy occurred on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, resulting in several injuries. Fortunately, Rahul Gandhi was unharmed.

The incident took place near the 91-km marker in the Haliyapur region, where five convoy vehicles and an ambulance were involved in the crash. Among the injured were party workers, officials, and security personnel.

Rahul Gandhi was in Uttar Pradesh for a visit and was scheduled to appear in a special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur regarding a defamation case linked to remarks he allegedly made about Amit Shah, the current Union Home Minister and former BJP president.

The court was set to announce its verdict on the same day. According to the complainant's attorney, Santosh Kumar Pandey, Gandhi must be present in court for the judgment.

Previously, Additional Civil Judge Shubham Verma had postponed the verdict to October 13.

Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal indicated that Gandhi was expected to travel by road from Lucknow, arriving around 10 a.m. as per his itinerary.

To ensure safety during the court proceedings, police have arranged for adequate security personnel to maintain order in and around the court.

This defamation case traces back to August 4, 2018, when BJP leader Vijay Mishra, a former chairman of the Sultanpur District Cooperative Bank, lodged a complaint against Gandhi over his alleged comments about Amit Shah made during a campaign rally in Bengaluru ahead of the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections.

The special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur has been handling the case, which is now poised to deliver its verdict.

Further information regarding the accident, including the number of injured individuals and the severity of their injuries, is still pending.
