What Does the Removal of Barricades Outside Mamata Banerjee's Residence Mean?
Changes in Security Measures at Mamata Banerjee's Home
Kolkata: Following the recent electoral defeat of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state and her loss in the Bhabanipur constituency, the barricades that had long been a fixture on Harish Chatterjee Street in South Kolkata have been partially taken down.
On Tuesday, law enforcement officials were observed removing the blue-and-white barriers that had previously restricted public access near her residence at 30B.
Although Kolkata Police did not issue any formal announcement regarding this action, an officer at a nearby kiosk mentioned that they received orders to dismantle the smart barricades earlier that morning.
The officer noted that no specific reasons were provided for this decision, stating, "We are simply following directives from higher authorities."
While a police kiosk remains operational, the overall security presence in the vicinity has noticeably decreased.
The Kalighat area, part of the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, had been classified as a high-security zone, where vehicle access was closely monitored.
Residents often had to present identification to enter their homes, but on Tuesday morning, the restrictions seemed to have significantly relaxed with the partial removal of the barricades.
