Formation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Central Government finalized an agreement with the Nagaland administration and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) to establish the 'Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority' within the state.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present during the signing, emphasizing that the Centre is committed to supporting the development of eastern Nagaland.

Shah noted that nearly all issues have been resolved, with only a few minor points remaining.

He highlighted that since 2019, the government has successfully executed 12 significant agreements in the Northeast region.

The Modi administration has a strong tradition of diligently implementing agreements, and Shah reassured ENPO representatives of substantial assistance for Eastern Nagaland's development, along with fulfilling all responsibilities.

He stated that there should be complete confidence in both the Nagaland and central governments, assuring that all necessary funds will be allocated and released, with initial costs covered by the Union Home Ministry.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio remarked that this agreement symbolizes mutual trust, addresses the aspirations of eastern Nagaland, and aims to bring development to every household.

The ENPO, which represents eight tribes across six eastern districts, has been advocating for a separate state since 2010, citing years of neglect. They have now accepted the Centre's proposal for a degree of autonomy under the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority framework.
