Inauguration of Vizhinjam International Seaport


Thiruvananthapuram: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Seaport, a project that has been completed with an investment of approximately Rs 8,867 crore.


The Prime Minister arrived at the port via helicopter from Thiruvananthapuram city at 10:15 AM and toured the transshipment hub while donning a hard hat to assess the facilities.


At 11:33 AM, he officially launched the first phase of the port in the presence of notable figures including Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, and Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.


Situated in the Thiruvananthapuram district, this deep-water port is anticipated to significantly enhance India's position in global trade and shipping.


Developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), which is the largest port developer in India and part of the Adani Group, the port was established through a public-private partnership.


After a successful trial run, the port was granted its commercial commissioning certificate on December 4 of the previous year.
