What Does Iranian President's Invitation to Modi Mean for India-Iran Relations?
Invitation Extended to PM Modi for Khamenei's Funeral
In a significant diplomatic gesture, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as per diplomatic sources on Wednesday.
The ceremonies are scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 9.
As of now, there has been no official acknowledgment from New Delhi regarding the invitation extended to PM Modi.
Ayatollah Khamenei, who led Iran for thirty years, passed away on February 28, coinciding with extensive air strikes by the US and Israel on Tehran.
According to diplomatic channels, President Pezeshkian has formally invited the Indian Prime Minister to participate in the burial rites.
The funeral events are set to occur in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6, and 7, with the concluding ceremony planned for Mashhad on July 9.
